A Flower for Oy by Valerie Lipscher

A blank page in the sketchbook. Valerie Lipscher explores the white sheet with applied fields of colour: orange follows a warm red, golden paint shimmers in the spaces between. It's hot in the studio — a longing for refreshment arises and is reflected in the choice of colours. A cool, deep blue. A pool? At its edge Valerie places a woman and loses herself in the ornamentation of her swimsuit. Suddenly, green leaves grow wildly into the pages of the sketchbook. At their centre, the deep-red blossom of the torch ginger grows and blooms.

At around the same time, Zelia Zadra is looking for new designs for the upcoming Oy swimwear collection. Mutual friends bring them together. Zelia immediately loves the wildness and colour intensity of the torch ginger. The two women team up and transfer the drawing onto fabric. Together they develop a design in which the wild leaves and the blossom hug the female body and emphasise femininity in all its facets: the fiery red of the blossom and the cool caress of the leaves turn the summer dream into a longing — to soothe the heat with cool water and wait for the leap into the blue.
