Meet the Team — Celina

Have you ever reached out to us on social media? Then you've probably already spoken with Celina. Or have you ever come across one of our ads while scrolling through your feed? That was almost certainly Celina's work!

Island Life

Celina grew up near Freiburg in Germany and started surfing at 18. She has never stopped since and has built her life around it. Today she's based in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. When she isn't chasing waves in some other part of the world, she spends her time in nature, with good food and great friends, and explores the island in her van. Another one of her passions is getting creative with things that wash up on the beach — especially all the sea glass.

Trust the timing

The connection between Celina and Oy goes way back. Celina bought her first Oy surf bikini seven years ago in Fuerteventura. She fell in love with the quality and the fit from the very start. Then, in Nicaragua, she met a girl who could have been her sister. They looked so alike — and they were even wearing the exact same Oy bikini! From then on they were known as the German twins.

A few years later, when she moved to Gran Canaria, Celina met Oy founder Zelia while surfing. Celina had already been thinking about applying to Oy for a while. Then it just fell into place — once again proving that you can achieve a lot when you simply trust life! Since then she has done many things for Oy. A big part of it is social media and staying in close contact with our athletes and Oy maids.

Question Time!

Where is your favourite wave?
Celina: There's a wave in the south of Gran Canaria that is definitely my favourite spot. It only breaks in winter, and you need a lot of luck.

What's your favourite board?
Celina: Right now I surf a 5'7 shortboard by Pyzel and a few longboards that I get to try out at Buensurf in Las Palmas.

What's your personal mantra?
Celina: A good friend and I started saying "la vida nos cuida," which means that life takes care of us, and we said it every time something good happened to us. In the meantime, life has brought us both to Gran Canaria, and once again life is taking care of us in a very good way.

What would you say to your 20-year-old self?
Celina: That's a good question! I think people are right when they say that every low and every high shapes you into the person you are today. So I would probably tell myself to have more trust in life, because things will fall into place when the time is right.

How do you make the world a better place?
Celina: By smiling. Of course I try my best to question our consumption and to live as sustainably as possible, but I feel like people don't smile enough anymore and that we've somehow lost that nonverbal connection. That's why I like to smile and laugh a lot and fill my surroundings with it.

What's the best advice someone has given you?
Celina: To stay the way I am.

Yes, please stay just the way you are and keep doing what you love. We can't thank you enough for your valuable work!
